Wellness Festival & Events

Hosted by Chester’s Aaron Manor, this week is full of good health and healthy lifestyle choices. Demonstrations and workshops on yoga, reiki, acupuncture, chiropractic practices, massage and nutrition. Wellness through eating healthy foods, shared recipes and ideas.

Garden Tips & Tool Swap

Bring your dull, your worn out, your very favorite . . . hand tools to the market. For $2.00 you can have them sharpened, close to good as new and ready to tackle the tangles in your garden.

Community BBQ

Celebrate this holiday weekend with an amazing barbeque cooked on the flatbed of the Farm Dinners truck. Join Jonathan Rapp and a variety of Chester chefs and resident cooks for a sizzling array of fabulous foods hot off the grill.

Also: Potato Salad Tasting. Vote for your favorite potato salad made by local restaurants and organizations.

Farmstead Cheese & Bread Festival

Chester sure does bread right! Join our notable bread bakers and cheese makers for a delicious Sunday morning of bread tasting,

bread tips-and-tricks, bread dipping, bread and artisan cheeses.

Arts Festival

Chester is known for its wide-range of talented artists and craftspeople. Well-known and  little-known alike will display their work for our viewing and inspiration. Kids, join in on the festival and show your work. Art demonstrations and workshops.

Peach Festival

What is better than a sweet fresh peach picked at its peak of ripeness? Perhaps its short season makes us long for the peach throughout the year. Get your fill of peaches this Sunday with fresh local peaches. Highlights will be peach ice cream, peach crepes, peach scones, peach salsa, and of course, peach pie!

2 AUGUST

Kid’s & Family Day

Kids, bring Mom and Dad to the market today. Special kid festivities will be featured; storytelling and book swap (bring your outgrown books and swap them with other kids, donate them to those in need,

or to our library).

Kid artwork: make art at the market. Workshops, activities and demonstrations. Make art and jewelry out of recycled objects and materials.

Corn Festival

Corn-featured foods and recipes will be available for tasting and inspiration. Fritters, tamales, cornbread, relish. Corn is the key ingredient in so many sustainable and environmentally-responsible products. Corn-based products such as biodegradable plates, bags, and cups will be for sale and on display.

Tomato Festival

A fresh, seasonal tomato, right off the vine (meaning local), is nothing like a store-bought tomato, picked green and traveled 1500-plus miles to the grocery store! They are two different things altogether. Taste one. You’ll be hooked.

How many ways can you cook a tomato? Tomato sauces, tomato relish, fried tomatoes, tomato pie, fresh tomatoes and basil, tomato salad . . .

Civic & Community Outreach Festival

Visit with the members of Chesters’ amazing groups and organizations. These remarkable volunteers devote their time, energy and intellect to making sure our town runs smoothly, is safe from harm, educates and nurtures. They feed us, inform us, keep our waters clean and our open spaces available for our benefit. Come to the market and meet them. Say thank you. See if you’d like to get involved.

Seafood Festival

Enjoy the bounties of Connecticut waters at the market this week. Local chefs will offer delicious seafood creations . . . seafood crepes, lobster rolls, seafood salad, clam fritters, smoked fish, scallop cakes . . . Recipes from local chefs and residents available.

It’s Chester Fair weekend, so the market this week will me held in-town
at the Water Street parking lot across from New Alliance Bank.

Canning & Food Storage

Keep the local, seasonal foods you love available throughout the winter by canning, freezing, drying and smoking them. Demonstrations on the basics of drying, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables. How-to techniques on smoking meats and seafood. Information, recipes and references available.

Healthy Lunchbox & Kids Day

Lunchboxes can be delicious and nutritious. Head back to school with good food ideas for lunch every day. Kids cooking demos and recipes, and find new ways to pack your lunch way beyond the brown paper bag or plastic pail. Get your very own Food Passport at the market!

Ethnic Festival & Celebration

Different cultures use some of our most common fresh foods in very different ways. Enjoy the delicious and diverse tastes available right here in our Connecticut river valley. Indian, Mexican, Italian, Vietnamese, French . . . all fresh, all seasonal, each one unique.

Home Brew, Cider & Apple Festival

In the quest for sustainability and self-reliance, why not brew your own?  We will have an apple press at the market for demonstration and tasting of fresh-pressed local apples, as well as home brew demonstrations by Chester residents. Not to mention the wonderful apples grown by our vendors, picked fresh from their orchards. Cheese and bread with apples? Now that’s Fall!

Harvest Festival & Celebration

Celebrate the harvest!  Seasonal apples, late corn, ripe squash and pumpkins. It all comes together this time of year. Get in the spirit early and wear your Halloween costume to the market.
